Close to the Garonne river, which was once a great communication route, traces of Brulhois vineyards and winemaking date as far back as Gallo-Roman times.
At the beginning of the 14th century, while under English occupation, not only 48,000 hl of wine but also famous earthenware objects were exported from the region via the river.

Following the revolution, the once rebellious viscounty of Brulhois was divided up into 3 departments, and later into 2 regions.

In the Occitan dialect "Brulhès" means wooded riverbank.

The "Brotherhood of the Black Wines of Brulhois"

At the beginning of the 20th century the Brulhois name had almost been forgotten. But the vines continued to cling to the land, and over the last 30 years their revival has been the pride of the region.
In 1984 the recognition of the region as an "appellation d'origine" established the quality of the wines and the fervour of the Vignerons.

The "Brotherhood of the Black Wines of Brulhois" regularly celebrates the quality of these once forgotten wines, and contributes to their promotion.
